Fantastic Shaman's Bags, Papua New Guinea





Fantastic Shaman's Magic Bag from the 1950's. Made from woven fibers with attached bones and magic substances still inside, undisturbed. Ex-Paulian Missionaries. This, along with a warehouse full of  artifacts collected by the Paulian order in the  years following W.W.II was sealed in 1963 and not opened until 2000, when I purchased this and several other items in the collection.

Another early shaman's bag, from the same lot. This one is more flat and is dressed with bird claws and bones covering a complete side, with a long carrying strap of woven mesh.

Provenance: Australian Paulian Missionaries.

This bag is from a different source, but is also a great decoration piece. One side is completely covered in feathers from the round, woven bag.
